The Centre For Life exhibition and the LIFElab Education Resource Centre's
mission is to enable the public to explore the key areas of new life sciences
and the significance of DNA through use of hands on interpretative techniques,
'learning laboratories', state-of-the-art technology and an impressive
combination of 3-D audio-visual wizardry.
LIFE has also proven to be an extremely popular venue for use within the
corporate market -LIFE Conference and Banqueting. The Mezzanine Suite within the
attraction offers a unique corporate entertainment venue in a distinctive
setting. If more conventional venues
are preferred, the site houses eight
additional purpose-built conference suites and rooms in the Conference Centre
and adjacent Bioscience Centre. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, each
suite provides world-class facilities designed to suit intensive, all-day
events.
Newcastle University's Institute of Human Genetics, Newcastle NHS Trust's
Reproductive Medicine Clinic, PEALS, the Institute of Bioethics, and a host of
Biotechnology companies operating on site, also make the Centre truly unique as
a 'Science Village'.
The centre continues to develop and expand. A 652 space multi-storey car park
opened in September 2002, and next door, work is well underway on the
development of a vibrant mixed-use scheme featuring the North East's largest
hotel - a 3 Star Jury's Inn, office space, residential accommodation and bars
and restaurants. The buildings will surround a central Plaza that will be
attractively paved to create a square where people will be able to sit, enjoy a
drink or dine.
